About Chef Samaira Kavatkar

Born and raised in Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay, in India, Chef Samaira Kavatkar is no stranger to her home country’s cuisine. Known to most as thebombayeastindiangirl_14 as Kavatkar shares her culinary endeavors on social media, the Mumbai native is keen to celebrate her heritage through her cuisine. The Portuguese arrived in India in the 1500s, and for centuries the country’s cuisine has undergone the influence. Kavatkar’s Indian cuisine is inspired by her Portuguese-Indian descent, as her cuisine is inspired to cherish family recipes and the art of hospitality and entertainment, She moved to Hong Kong with a profession in the commercial sector. As her passion for cuisine grew stronger, Kavatkar started to host special pop-ups and wine dinners, presenting a colorful scope of Indian cuisine beyond the stereotypical spice-laden dishes. As Nine One is set to open, Kavatkar is realising a childhood dream to open her restaurant, Samaira aims to present her home cuisine through dishes, from meticulously created spice blends to chutneys, breads, and braises, she has mastered during her years as a private chef, and bring a distinctive perspective of Indian cuisine unknown to many, but often beloved.

Located in Tsim Sha Tsui, and seated 95 guests, Nine One is the gathering place of Indian dishes designed and crafted by chef Samaira Kavatkar. Through her rich Indian-Portuguese heritage and upbringing surrounding by home cooking and entertaining, Kavatkar channels her nostalgia for vibrant flavour profiles and memories of her time in the spice nation, reinventing her classic dishes for guests to experience and enjoy.
